The fine-bubble E-FLEX®-Aeration System is characterized by a highly efficient oxygen transfer, a robust and low-maintenance design and flexible application options in municipal wastewater treatment.
E-FLEX®-Aeration System
Product Information
The requirements for a highly efficient, robust and versatile aeration system led to the development of the E-FLEX®-Aeration System.
The E-FLEX®-Aeration System has the following advantages and properties:
- Freely oscillating hose membranes ensure the highest possible oxygen transfer efficiency through an extremely fine-bubble aeration pattern
- Robust construction
- By using a lifting kit and pre-assembled modules, installation is extremely quick and easy, even in filled basins
- The modular design enables flexible design and, if necessary, retrofitting of existing installations
- A large usable control range and a modular concept enable flexible operational management

Aeration Systems for Modern Wastewater Treatment
Applications of the INVENT E-FLEX®– Aeration System
BOD/COD degradation
Efficient oxygen supply to microorganisms for biological pollutant reduction:
The easy-to-install E-FLEX®-Aeration System delivers the required oxygen with high efficiency, leading to reduced operating costs. Optionally, the E-FLEX®-Aeration System can also be designed to be removable.
Intermittent aeration
Through intermittent aeration combined with modern measurement, control, and regulation technology, the energy demand of a wastewater treatment plant can be significantly reduced, while maintaining stable operation with consistently low effluent values. The clog-free E-FLEX®-Aeration System is ideally suited for intermittent operation.
The E-FLEX®-Aeration System is perfectly suited for intermittent operation because the membrane openings reliably and completely close when aeration is turned off. This eliminates the risk of activated sludge entering the aerators and clogging the membranes.
Facultative aeration
The facultative aeration allows for providing additional nitrification capacity seasonally or during peak loads to reliably remove ammonium. Aerators in facultatively aerated tanks must operate reliably after extended periods without air supply.
With proper maintenance, the E-FLEX®-Aeration System can easily withstand longer downtimes and is available as an efficient aerator when needed.
Nitrification
Nitrification describes the bacterial conversion of ammonia (NH3) or ammonium ions (NH4+) into nitrate (NO3−). This process occurs in two steps: first, ammonia is oxidized to nitrite, followed by the oxidation of nitrite to nitrate.
The E-FLEX®-Aeration System delivers the required oxygen with high efficiency, thereby minimizing operating costs.
Membrane bioreactor (MBR)
Continuous cleaning of the membrane surface and uniform aeration help limit the thickness of the biofilm layer. This is crucial for the activity of biological microorganisms responsible for breaking down organic substances in the wastewater.
Membrane bioreactors (MBRs) often have elevated biomass concentrations, which significantly reduce the oxygen transfer efficiency in the wastewater, known as the alpha factor.
Thanks to its high efficiency and automatic maintenance capability, the E-FLEX®-Aeration System is well suited for MBR systems.
